So Many Elephant Toots
Apr. 28th, 2022 09:20 amSo with the recent uh events with twit there's been a huge influx of people leaving or trying to join other places instead. Mastodon has definitely been a common enough place people are attempting to try out. Every now and then there's a lil boost of new users from another site doing something people don't like or agree with, but this is the first time I've seen something of this scale since I've first joined it.
It's amazing to see so many people willing to try and everyone else is trying to help the new users settle in and the like. It's part of the reason I like Mastodon. It feels far more welcoming than twit for sure.
That said, this is also the first time where I've felt overwhelmed on Mastodon hahaha There's just suddenly So Much happening there with all the new users and their posts and conversations happening that I've actually had to just step away from it because wow
Things will probably settle down soon enough and inevitably some people won't bother returning to Mastodon (new site means you need to learn a new culture and how things work and sometimes it just doesn't vibe with some people - it's normal), but it's also nice to know that there's a lil more activity happening there. I used to spend like maybe five minutes to scroll and catch up on the feed and notifs (if there's any) and if I felt like it, see what's happening in the local timeline. This week however, I've not been able to catch up on my home timeline in those five minutes at all haha
Should be interesting to see if I'll have a steady feed there now. I'd much rather check up on Masto stuff than twit stuff, you know?

April's Theme

I have a poll up to help me decide what theme I should work on to make for phone wallpapers this month. The choices are between bunnies, plant creatures, and a sunrise view.
Bunnies should be self explanatory. I'll simply do something cute with bunnies like a snuggle pile or them hopping about or just looking adorable lil floofs.
Plant creatures are basically me combining an animal with flowers in some form. It's more fantasy based, but adds the fun and cute from both flora and fauna into one!
Sunrise view is pretty much a landscape. Think nice pastel colours over a scenic view casting a calm atmosphere everywhere the light touches.
This wallpaper, once done, will be up for anyone who gives me a tip on my ko-fi. Afterwards, I'll move it to a purchasable item in my Ko‑fi shop come May so that anyone who wants it doesn't miss out.

Stubbornly Trying
Jun. 4th, 2021 10:00 amI love that I'm still trying to post on Pifo and making comments and trying to hit the heart button, but I still don't know if any of that will go through. I'm stubborn about trying it, but ugh is this ever a bit of a pain.
Fandom Scene Shift
May. 30th, 2021 03:03 pmI will concede that tumblr still has a fandom scene in a way that I haven't seen elsewhere. But I really want to see that elsewhere and I have no idea if that's gonna happen or when.
Yes, this is me having a bout of disappointment after trying to look up for things I'm into in places I'm at and coming up with little. Some of these are small fandoms so it's expected, but the bigger fandoms? Wha??? How is it possible to have so little that comes up in the search when I know the base is huge?
No Crops! (Some restrictions apply)

I'm a desktop user so the new update does not apply at all and I don't trust that it will because twitter. I'm not really upset. Whether things crop or not isn't really a big deal to me, it's more of how the site determines where it gets cropped to that's actually tiring.
In any case, I feel like twitter is never going to top Mastodon in this. Crop still happens for twitter, which it supposedly crops to the middle of the piece (since when???), but Mastodon actually lets you control where the crop will go. In some ways, Mastodon is just way ahead of the game than twitter despite being smaller and newer than twitter.
Glad the mobile users got a treat though. Mobile twitter has a lot of shortcomings, but they actually got something solid happen for them with this so yeah, worth the celebration everyone's doing.

It's always interesting to me when a smaller, cozier place like Mastodon seems to grant me more activity on my work than places like twitter. Like even before I switched to the art instance on Masto I had more people looking at my stuff while I only got crickets on twit.
